Notes: Picture 2 of 13 for the Thirteen Days of Severus leading up to the Professor's 50th birthday. Thank you once again to [info]tjwritter for beta advice on the composition. Although there's no actual Snape in this one, I think it's a much more interesting piece.

Tiny Little Movie Review: Sherlock Holmes

  • Dec. 29th, 2009 at 1:45 PM

holmesI am posting this from home, and I’m not sure what time it’s going to show up, but I woke up at 6:45 with kind of a sense memory of how to post links… maybe.    I don’t want to say I have a preference of , say, a kind of computer I have at work vs. home, but let’s just say I’m team Justin Long.  Yes!  I’m pretty sure that worked.

Clearly, I am no Sherlock Holmes whether you mean the books, the iconic Rathbone version, or the latest with Iron Man.

Iron Man does a good job, and so does the inexplicably loved by many women at work Jude Law as Watson.  He’s not a bumbler, but he is kind of charmingly frustrated by Iron Man and it’s not hard to imagine a couple more of these movies, especially since they introduce Sherlock’s nemesis at the end.

Guy Ritchie’s version of London isn’t a bad place to be for a couple of hours.  The fact that he made Snatch, and Lock, Stock, and Revolver then this speaks well of him.  But mostly I mention those movies to show off that I’ve really nailed the link attaching.

Maybe over this break I should try solving a few crimes.

holiday-fill-in-2Here we are, working like… workers, who work.  Not pre-posting a bunch of vague stuff, that’s for sure!

Post-Christmas Newsflash!  Toddler gets this, plays with this.

Don’t know about you, but we can’t wait for the “Top 10 List of Top 10 Lists of Things That Happened in 2009.”

A man who won the lottery for millions quickly left his wife, because he always said that if he won the lottery he’d still be a jerk.

Well, that’s all the news for today!  Wow, who pre-guessed the 29th would be such a slow day?  Weird.

The LA Times has put together their top 10 list of theme park attractions coming in 2010. Among the list are four Disney attractions, the return of Captain EO, the remade Star Wars, The Silly Symphony Swings (although I find it hard to believe anyone is ‘waiting’ for that), and the World of Color. World of Color is really going to have to perform to live up the the hype.

Rose Bowl and BCS Disney T-shirts Announced

  • Dec. 29th, 2009 at 2:15 AM

The Collegiate Licensing Company and Disney Celebrate Rose Bowl and BCS Championship Teams with New Line of Limited Edition Tees

The collection will feature the logos of the participating teams – Oregon and Ohio State in the Rose Bowl and Alabama and Texas Universities in the BCS National Championship Game – featuring some of Disney’s most beloved characters including Mickey Mouse. Available beginning December 30, the T-shirts will be sold at www.DisneyStore.com, Disney Store locations in the markets of the participating universities, and at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.

“We’re excited to offer college football fans commemorative T-shirts to celebrate their team’s success through this limited edition Disney line,” said Scott Bouyack, CLC’s Vice President of Apparel Marketing.

“The combination of the iconic brands of the participating universities and our world renowned Disney characters makes for a one-of-a kind collectible for passionate college football fans,” said Stephen Teglas, vice president and general manager of Fashion & Home for Disney Consumer Products. “With four of the best teams in college football playing right here in Southern California, we thought this was a great way to showcase support for fans and welcome visitors.”

The Rose Bowl and BCS merchandise is the latest offering by CLC and Disney Consumer Products (DCP). DCP and CLC have collaborated to develop co-branded college infant and youth/toddler merchandise, which is available at Walmart stores, as well as other merchandise lines sold through Disney theme parks and Disney retail outlets.

Proceeds from the sales of Disney college merchandise will help support the participating universities, the BCS, and the Rose Bowl. CLC is the licensing partner for the Bowl Championship Series (BCS), the Tournament of Roses, The University of Alabama, and The University of Texas. The Ohio State University and the University of Oregon manage independent licensing programs but worked with CLC on product development.

Comic moves by Disney

  • Dec. 29th, 2009 at 12:16 AM

Two interesting Comic book stories about Disney in the news today.

In an article that mostly rehashes previous coverage the AP writes about Disney’s acquisition of the Marvel brand of comics and how any value opportunities will have to come from the marginal characters. Of course, taking lesser known characters and making stars of them is something Disney does well.

Then there is the odd bit of news that Frank Zappa’s son Ahmet has been tapped to lead Disney’s Kingdom Comics house.

With Marvel fully on board, expect to hear a lot more about Disney and comics in the coming years.
